The Hereford District Striking Competition took place on Sunday 28th June. Hosted by the ringers at Fownhope, we enjoyed some lovely bells, burgers and beer!!
The afternoon started with a blessing in the church followed by the draw. This year there was a good turn out, with nine teams entering altogether to compete for the method ringing shield and the call change shield. Soon, the first band were up the tower, while others made their way up to the orchard where they could enjoy listening to the ringing, with the added benifit of burgers and beer!!
A big thank you to Jenny Lawrence (Guild Master) for taking on the job of tower steward for the afternoon. Also to Colin Ward who helped out as a guest tenor ringer for some of the teams.
After all nine teams had rung, it was time to hear from our judge for the day, Roman Sadowski, who had been listening intently to the afternoon's ringing. Comments were given on each band in turn and a final score awarded.
The winning teams were presented with a shield to display in their tower until next year, when hopefully they will be back to defend their title!!
